The history of Papal Seminary goes back to 1893 when Pope Leo XIII founded it in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and entrusted its direction and administration to the Society of Jesus. Later it was elevated to the status of Pontifical College with rights and privilege of conferring the Baccalaureate, Licentiate and Doctorate in both Philosophy and Theology. In 1955 the Papal Seminary – and, with it, the Papal Athenaeum – was transferred from Sri Lanka to Pune.
This year, Papal Seminary, together with Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, celebrates its diamond Jubilee in Pune. Various activities, including refresher courses and conferences, are being planned beginning with the new academic year (June 2018).
In view its Quasquicentennial Jubilee in Pune, the Home of Love, Papal Seminary is planning to bring out:
- A souvenir containing articles of alumnii
- A short brochure on Papal Seminary
- A documentary on Papal Seminary
There will also be some charitable support to the domestic staff of the seminary. In view of these plans, the language academies will be encouraged to conduct food fests to raise funds. However, these plans would require a considerable amount of money to implement them well.
An account in the name of PAPAL SEMINARY ALUMNII FUND will be maintained for permanent use in future.
The Papal Seminary – your alma mater – the HOME OF LOVE, NEEDS YOU and humbly requests you to send your contribution to execute these plans.
